D is for Dumbledore

Since the end of Harry Potter, the biggest debate among the fandom might just be “Is Dumbledore good, or evil?” A quick Google search of the question tells me that people also ask if Dumbledore cared for Harry.

While some of us may have this debate among fellow fans, did you know that if you attend George Washington University, you could get course credit for taking part in examining (and debating) the world of Harry Potter? And for those of us past our University years, you can still catch glimpses of the debates through Professor Julian Wamble’s social media or podcast, Critical Magic Theory.

If you do wander into this new world of critical magic, it won’t take you long to be faced with the ethics of Dumbledore’s choices and wonder if he cares about anyone outside himself. After all, he will set people up to die if it may lead to vanquishing Voldemort. One could even argue that Dumbledore’s Army was an underground student club led by his golden child soldier, Harry Potter.

So grab a butterbeer and dive into some crunch food-for-thought.
