Tips and tricks!

11-new-features_16x9

The thing about a topic like "Tips & Tricks" is that it's supposed to be used to represent two separate things, but rarely ever is. So to address that here, I decided to put together a little Jostle-related list that purposely includes both "tips" AND "tricks" for you to explore. Let's dig in!

TIP & TRICK: Google Translate

Let’s kick things off with a two-in-one. Here’s the tip:

While your Jostle platform already comes with multi-language support (English, French, Japanese, German, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Danish, Polish, Hebrew, and Arabic), did you know that it’s also compatible with the Google Translate extension for Chrome? This means users can view their platform's content in over 100 different languages!

Here's how:

  1. Download and install the Google Translate extension from the Chrome Web Store
  2. Using the Chrome browser, log into your platform
  3. Click the Google Translate extension icon at the top of your browser
  4. Click on "Translate This Page" and select your language

And that’s it—instant translation! One drawback though, is that Google Translate will not work in Search. But that’s okay, because it leads us to our trick:

As a workaround, you can try translating words and terms from your chosen language to English for search purposes, and then using Google Translate to translate the resulting matching pages to your chosen language.

TIP: Personal Links

Links is the default name of the last section listed in the Main Navigation, but regardless of what it goes by in your platform (it can be customized by your System Admin), it’s always going to be the place where your organization will have listed or embedded links to third party tools, reference sites, or other resources that are useful for your day-to-day work.

But, what most users fail to realize is that there’s also a section there specifically for your own personal links. That’s right, you can customize the interface of your platform to display (for you and you only) a list of your favorite or most-used links. So quit scrolling through your endless browser bookmarks list and keep everything you need just one click away in your Jostle platform’s Personal Links!

TRICK: Dedicated Discussion window

Have you ever been involved in an important Discussion when another one pops up? Or needed to keep a Discussion going while you were looking over documents in your Jostle Library? Well, now you can save yourself the hassle of bouncing back and forth between Discussions or switching from one view to another and back again.

How? Simple—while in your Jostle platform, open it again in another browser window and make that one your “dedicated Discussion window”. Now you can easily place it side by side with your current window for some split-screen Discussions action or even take a “picture-in-picture” approach and place it in the corner of whatever you’re currently viewing. Either way, it allows you to keep on top of everything at a glance.

And since you don’t need to navigate away from your dedicated Discussion to work in your original window, any unfinished comments you enter will still be there when you return, ready for you to pick up right from where you left off!

Well, that’s it for this little round-up of tips and tricks. Hope you found some of them helpful! Now, how about you—does anyone have any platform tips or tricks of their own they’d like to share? Let us know, we can always publish a follow-up!
