Our latest Customer Spotlight is 2020 Jostle Awards winner the City of Medicine Hat, who received the Legacy Award in recognition of their long-term commitment to their Jostle platform and constant evolution of their strategy. 

Medicine Hat is a Canadian city located in southeast Alberta. Historically known for its large natural gas fields, the city is nicknamed “The Gas City” (it’s also their slogan). Hockey fans may be familiar with it as the hometown of Trevor Linden or for their WHL club, the Medicine Hat Tigers, whose alumni include Lanny McDonald, Chris Osgood, Jay Bouwmeester, and Trevor Linden.

In 2020, the team running the City of Medicine Hat’s Jostle platform decided that they wanted to go beyond just using Shout-Outs for their employee recognition needs. They wanted to be able to elaborate on the good news and provide more context for the ‘why’ behind their recognition. So, they turned to News and launched a new employee recognition program they called Kudos! Here is how they did it:

1. Created a “Kudos!” category in News 
2. Created standard Header Images for the articles and uploaded the banners to Library so all Reporters could access them. 
3. Shared an article explaining the new program, and why they were making the change. The article also included instructions for Reporters for publishing Kudos and flagged who all other users could contact to get their Kudos published. 

The new program wasn’t difficult or too technical to set up, and the City of Medicine Hat found that once one or two articles were posted, the Kudos just started rolling in. They ended up breathing new life and celebration into their organization!
