SAN FRANCISCO – OCTOBER 21, 2015 – AppDynamics, a leading application intelligence company, today announced that Jostle, an award-winning software design firm, continues to expand its use of the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform to support its objective of building “a radically better intranet” to connect employees to each other, their leadership, and their company culture. Jostle has doubled down on its use of the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform to help deliver a top-notch user experience and optimize performance across its entire software stack, which spans Java, Tomcat, and database servers, and is hosted by Amazon Web Services and other cloud providers.

“Everything the company does has to be fast,” said Teg Ryan, director of technical operations at Jostle. “All of our users expect to get their documents or have a discussion in our application without any kind of glitch or delay. Today, we use the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform to monitor every aspect of response-time levels. If there’s slowdown, we can easily drill down and find exactly where in the stack is causing a problem. I would say our mean time to recovery is roughly cut in half given the visibility we have now,” added Ryan.

Jostle initially deployed the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform to address performance visibility issues. The company was using what Ryan describes as a “hodgepodge of different monitoring tools with black holes we couldn’t see into.” According to Ryan, the performance black holes are gone. In addition, Jostle uses AppDynamics Database Monitoring to pinpoint slow database transactions to help optimize performance. “Prior to deploying AppDynamics Database Monitoring, we had a bug in our code that was causing a query to fire a million times over and over again,” said Ryan. “Using AppDynamics Database Monitoring, my team uncovered the bug and fixed it in a matter of minutes.”

The DevOps team at Jostle sees considerable value in the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform for optimizing its code. Jostle’s developers quickly embraced the AppDynamics dashboard and use it on a daily basis to resolve most issues early in the development process—long before problems reach production. Ryan calls the dashboard’s elegant instrumentation and the simple configuration of the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform “mind-blowing.”
